Important Information & Disclaimer
Last updated: 27 August 2026
Laterhood helps people plan ahead and communicate their wishes and arrangements. It is important to understand the limits of the service.
Laterhood is not a legal service
A Laterhood Plan is not a will, power of attorney or other legal document.
Recording a preference in Laterhood does not necessarily make that preference legally binding.
Obtain legal advice where appropriate.
Laterhood is not a medical or care service
Laterhood does not diagnose medical conditions, provide healthcare or monitor your health.
It does not determine whether you are safe, unwell, incapacitated or have passed away.
Laterhood is not an emergency service
Check-ins are not an emergency alarm or monitored emergency-response service.
Do not rely on Laterhood instead of emergency services, appropriate medical services or specialist monitoring/alarm services.
In an emergency, call the appropriate emergency service.
Missed check-ins
There are many reasons somebody might miss a check-in.
A missed check-in does not establish that an emergency has occurred.
Laterhood may send reminders and notifications according to the arrangements selected by the member, but cannot guarantee an immediate response by a Trusted Person.
Trusted People
Trusted People are selected by members, not employed or supplied by Laterhood.
Laterhood cannot guarantee that a Trusted Person will remain available, respond to a notification or follow a member's wishes.
Professionals
Professionals listed in the Laterhood directory are independent of Laterhood.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Laterhood does not verify their qualifications or services and listing does not constitute endorsement.
Always check that a professional's qualifications, regulatory status and services are suitable for your needs.
Messages for Later
Laterhood cannot guarantee that a future recipient remains contactable or that a delivered message will be read or acted upon.
Members should periodically review recipient details and their release arrangements.
Keep other arrangements in place
Laterhood should complement, rather than replace, appropriate legal documents, emergency arrangements, professional advice and communication with people you trust.
